The Roman roads marking and information system

The Roman long-distance roads are made comprehensible and tangible again in the Roman Road Adventure Regions using modern means.

Mansio

The entry and information points are called mansio. Here you can start your excursions along the Roman long-distance roads and switch from car to bicycle or start your hikes. Surrounded by fruit trees, the rest and relaxation area is a pleasant place to take a break.

INFORMATION STELE

Information steles explain the course and structure of the roads, the archaeological monuments along the way and places of interest in the surrounding area that are worth a detour.

DIRECTIONS

Signposts and markings guide visitors along the route using a uniform signage and information system, with the VIA word and image mark serving as a leitmotif.

CONCRETE ARROWS

Concrete arrows embedded in the ground mark points where the cycle and hiking route crosses the course of the Roman road.

COLUMNAR OAKS

The course of the Roman road itself is marked in many places by columnar oaks, even and especially where the ancient road itself no longer exists today.

MILE MARKERS

Mile markers make it possible to read the respective distance to the starting point of the road in Cologne at individual locations.
