The guild house in Blankenheim shines in new splendour and with a new exhibition. The former local history museum has been transformed into an information centre on the history of the Romans and their legacy in Blankenheim and the Northern Eifel.

The exhibition focuses on the history of the Roman villa – an estate that was in use from the 1st to the 4th century AD – and its modern reconstruction, linked to questions of economic use in Roman times, archaeological traditions and the afterlife of Roman antiquity in the collections of the Counts of Manderscheid-Blankenheim. Visitors are thus taken on a journey of discovery into Blankenheim's Roman past, which also sharpens their awareness of the importance of researching, collecting and preserving historical traditions for the future.

The country villa existed from the late 1st to the middle of the 4th century as an agricultural farm and representative residence. Its ruins were discovered in the late 19th century and researched until the first half of the 20th century. After that, they were inaccessible for more than half a century and were left to increasing overbuilding and decay. Since the summer of 2014, they have been the centrepiece of an archaeological park, which conveys an impressive impression of the extent and architecture of the complex through a modern partial reconstruction of the representative portico of the main house and floor installations made of Corten steel.

In the exhibition, valuable originals from the collections of the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn and the Romano-Germanic Museum in Cologne, as well as models, interactive stations and a film, establish a connection between the present and antiquity.
